2016 Conference - Overview
You spoke, we listened!
After the 2015 Conference in Portland, many of the attendees took the time to complete a survey and share their likes and dislikes, and hopes for future conferences. One of the most suggested items was more time for networking and interacting with other members. So…..
In 2016, we are trying out some new things!
For those who arrive early, there will be a Thursday morning tour of the Barnes Foundation, a unique collection of impressionist and modern work housed in Philadelphia, which rarely travels. (Reps and Board members who arrive even earlier will also have tour options.)
Thursday afternoon, we will have the Vendor Marketplace (where you will be sure to find unique and handmade items of all kinds) and TableTalk. New this year, TableTalk is a chance to actually sit down with members to share an experience, learn something new, promote an activity. You can request a table of your own (no charge for members!) to put out a display of your own work, to promote yourself or products you sell, to lead a discussion of a technique, or anything else.
Send an email to ICE2016@saqa.com if you are interested in a table of your own!
Don’t want to lead the talk? Then wander around and visit with people who are ready to meet you and tell you about themselves, their volunteer work with SAQA, what they can teach you, or whatever they have decided to discuss. Several SAQA Committees plan to be there so you can learn more about Exhibitions, Juried Artist Membership, Mentorship opportunities, Conference planning, becoming a Rep, or other activities.
On Friday, you can participate in MakerSpace, creating something, learning something, sharing something or just having some fun. You can also take some time for PechaKucha short presentations from members using Powerpoint presentations. The idea is to show 20 slides in a little more than 6 minutes. The talks and their times will be listed so you can choose when to sit in.
Want to give a talk? Email ICE2016@saqa.com to sign up or get more information.
Saturday, we will attend the opening of Art Quilt Elements, then return to Philadelphia for some more time to connect. We are working to set up a system to help people find likeminded people to share a meal somewhere on Saturday evening. Keep watching for news of how this develops and think about what you would like to discuss (Modern Quilting, getting into shows, running a business?) and what kind of food you want to be eating (Thai, Mexican, fast food, elegant, seafood, sushi, Italian?). we will be looking for suggestions!
Email ICE2016@saqa.com if you have any suggestions!
