My goal is to create a unique piece using fiber. I use piecing, pleating, unraveling, tucking and wafering techniques, hand and machine quilting and hundreds of individual prairie points to explore the relationship between light and color. My “painting palette” consists of fabric and thread combined to create smooth color and design transitions within an abstract format.
The use of varied fabric textures in my Cityscapes series produces a color spectrum ranging from rich to subtle in effect, which is enhanced by the use of many shades of thread. I also enjoy painting fabric and am most interested to see how different fabrics behave and the emotional feelings that can be expressed.
While my hallmark is texture, both the visual texture of patterning and the physical texture of stitched, manipulated fabric, the color combination and attention to detail stemming from my background in fashion design remain at the core of each new piece.
