SAQA Seminar 2017 - Surface Design! SAQA Seminar 2017 - Surface Design!
The Education Committee is excited to announce SAQA Seminar 2017! The theme is Surface Design. We’ll kick off in September and run through the end of October releasing a new unit of material every two weeks. We’ll cover four topics: Print, Paint, Dye and Odds and Ends. Members will have access to articles, tutorials, book reviews and links to inspirational resources. There will be video conversations with surface design artists. We’ll have a Facebook group for SAQA Seminar participants and opportunities to participate in live video chats.

At the International Quilt Study Center & Museum: Layers are everywhere. They become apparent when we plumb the earth’s surface, make archeological digs to discover the history of civilizations, explore human anatomy, dress for the weather, dig in freshly fallen snow, and count rings in the stump of a tree. Layers are abstract, too. We find them in language when we ponder the hidden meanings in novels, poems, conversations, and puns.

An enormous divide exists between people who cherish their heritage of gun ownership and others who are concerned that guns contribute to the rising tide of gun violence. We must find a way to bridge this divide and talk openly and honestly about potential solutions while at the same time respecting legitimate uses for firearms. Artists are encouraged to submit work likely to spark a conversation on some aspect of the theme. Open to all-SAQA members - opens at the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles.

SAQA will be offering a new series of online discussion groups called Special Interest Groups (SIGs). These meetings take place "virtually" using Zoom video conferencing technology. It's a fun way to meet other SAQA members and discuss art-related topics. Our first SIG is all about Mixed Media!

Please join us for New, Newer, NEXT, a SAQA sponsored symposium to be held August 26, 2017 at the beautiful Dairy Arts Center in Boulder, Colorado. This event will be part of a fabulous week of fiber art beginning with the opening of the 75 art quilt exhibit at the Dairy on August 25. Following the symposium, there will be two three-day workshops with Betty Busby.

SAQA Mentorship Program SAQA Mentorship Program
SAQA mentorship offers a goal or project-based program of peer mentoring, open to all SAQA members seeking one-on-one mentorship for a period lasting up to twelve months. The primary Mentorship Program is for artists beginning an art practice and also for experienced artists that want to explore growth opportunities with another experienced artist. Mentors can provide a wide array of options to consider and offer constructive critique. Find out more!
