On the Other Hand

Like many quilt artists, I often find myself relying on luscious color and bold design to animate my work. These elements are undeniably visually appealing but, on the other hand, the lack of strong color and design can invite the eye to find more subtle but no less visually interesting elements of a work of art on which to feast. Taking a lesson from some of the masters of the post World War II American school of painters such as Jackson Pollock, I sought in this work, through the use of a limited and subdued palette and an all over composition, to entice my viewers to linger within my composition long enough to find and enjoy those smaller, quieter elements that nevertheless do animate it.
