Call for Entry Details• South Haven, Michigan
Deadline: August 25, 2019
For this show, we are looking for work that uses fiber-both natural and manufactured- to push the old limits of creative expression. The works must include fiber as content as well as at least one fiber process or technique. Fiber can include such things as paper(traditional, handmade or non-fiber such as Yupo, Stone paper and Evolon) fabric(natural or synthetic) plastic, plastic bags, wire, bamboo, wool, plant or food materials, string, yarn, sticks, etc. Fiber processes can include sewing, knitting, weaving, spinning, felting, basketry, embroidery, netting, etc.
This call is open to all artists 18 years of age or over in the following states: Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin. All work must be the original work of the artist and completed in the last three years. The use of fiber is an integral part of the human story, both as a survival imperative and as an expression of humankind’s innate creativity. The work of creating clothing, implements, books, art and home goods by hand has been usurped by the easy availability of mass produced goods and images. In this frenzied age of non-stop activity and work, creativity and expression is becoming a roadmap back to our essential humanity.
