SAQA EXHIBITION / EVENT
• Tallahassee, Florida
July 19, 2019 - August 31, 2019
What is the artist’s point of view?
The works in this exhibit represent responses by textile artists in Florida to a call-for-work that encouraged them to consider this question.
Experiences, artmaking approach, personality, interests, skills, relationships, beliefs – all affect the way one views and understands events and objects in our world.
How might you consider “perspective?” Seeing two sides or opinions of an issue? Seeing the world through the eyes of a child, an elderly person, a bug’s-eye view, or the view from beyond the mountaintops?
Visually, an artist might be most interested in a positive shape or in the negative space surrounding it. Colors might be chosen to alter a viewer’s perspective. A flat surface might have the illusion of depth.
Work might show the perspective of someone from a culture different than the artist’s own.
What is your perspective?
