Call for Entry Details
OPEN TO SAQA MEMBERS ONLY
• All Canadian members
Deadline: January 3, 2020
In Canada, we spell colour with a “u”. We also spell labour, favourite, honour, and neighbour with a “u”. That “u” could stand for unique, unforgettable, universal, unity, understanding, utopia. It could include the unusual, unexpected, unbound, unabashed, unaccounted, uncanny. We care about the “u”; it makes us unique. We care about the “you”; it brings us together.
What do the Canadian values of diversity and inclusion mean to you? How does your labour in your favourite medium honour your neighbourhood, your community? How do you colour yourself in to our Canadian culture?
We are looking for artwork that expresses these ideas and that together will give an insightful perspective on our Canadian cultural identity. We encourage work of all types, including representational, abstract, and social commentary, in 2D and 3D (which can include work suspended from the ceiling, work on stretcher bars, framed work, wearable art, sculpture and installation work).
There will be two concurrent exhibitions selected from all entries to this Call:
- Colour with a U comprising approximately 30 – 45 works selected by Jurors Faith Hieblinger, Alan Syliboy, and Jayne Willoughby for an opening exhibition at Homer Watson House & Gallery.
- Colour with a U Too comprising approximately 10 – 12 works selected by Juror Debra Antoncic for an opening exhibition at RiverBrink Art Museum.
Additional venues will be announced as they are secured. Work must be available to travel from April 2020 through March 2023.
All current Canadian SAQA members from the Atlantic Canada, Central Canada, and Western Canada regions, as well as those that list any of those regions as their second region, are eligible to submit work.
Faith Hieblinger, Guest Curator, Homer Watson House & Gallery, Alan Syliboy, Artist, and Jayne Willoughby, Textile Artist. Debra Antoncic, Director/Curator, RiverBrink Art Museum.
