Alaskan artist, Amy Meissner, spent 13 months crowdsourcing abandoned vintage linens and heirloom cloth from contributors all over the world. The landslide of doilies, embroideries, unfinished quilts and narratives form the raw material for this literal, physical and emotional examination of women's work. "Inheritance: makers. memory. myth." is a dedication to known and unknown women makers, and our connection to the cloth they left behind — a literal and conceptual view of inheritance as interpreted by the female gaze.
This traveling exhibition was funded in part by grants from the Rasmuson Foundation and the Sustainable Arts Foundation, and will travel to the Alaska State Museum in Juneau Dec. 7 through Feb. 9, 2019.
