The Atompunk aesthetic can trace its exact origins to the atomic laboratory in Los Alamos, New Mexico in the 1940s. From the bomb created by nuclear scientists of the Manhattan Project arose a bright yet bleak futuristic view that endured until the 1960s. Atompunk art is notable for using cheerful retro colors in an animated graphic style. It depicts imagery associated with cherished, traditional suburban values tarnished by flippant, sarcastic undertones of anticipated nuclear holocaust.
