ABOUT SAQA
July 17, 2007- Kathy Weaver is the Quilt National 07 winner of SAQA's CREAM (Cathy Rasmussen Emerging Artist Memorial) Award for "Robo Sapien: Agent 1". She received the award at the Quilt National Opening, Friday, May 25, 2007 at the Dairy Barn Cultural Arts Center in Athens, Ohio. Artist Kathy Weaver creates fiber art, drawings and paintings about robots and the intersection between art, technology and nature. “Robo Sapien: Agent 1” was created in 2006; naugahyde, beads, airbrushed, machine quilted, embellished and is 43" x 44". Receiving the CREAM award was truly icing on the cake. I was extremely honored to receive the award in memory of Cathy Rasmussen,” said Weaver.
SAQA presents the CREAM Awards to an artist who is selected for Quilt National’s prestigious exhibit for the first time. The CREAM Award was also presented to Jane Sowada at Quilt Visions in San Diego, California in November 2006. The award is funded through donations from SAQA members. Cathy Rasmussen was SAQA's first Executive Director.
SAQA is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote the art quilt through education, exhibitions, professional development, and documentation. With an active membership approaching 1,600 established and emerging artists, the artwork created by SAQA members can be found in both national and international exhibitions, galleries, museums and private collections.
