Japanese Quiltmakers

Join IQM Curator of International Collections Marin Hanson and Saitama University professor Nao Nomura as they present “Japanese Quiltmakers: An Oral History Project” on Textile Talks on May 15.

In the Spring of 2023, Hanson and Nomura conducted a series of interviews with leading Japanese quiltmakers. As part of their “Japanese Quiltmaker Oral History Project,” Hanson and Nomura asked these makers to reflect on their long careers as artists and teachers. The quiltmakers also shared about their work process and inspirations. Join Hanson and Nomura as they share some of the stories and analysis drawn from these discussions, which are part of what will hopefully be a multi-phase oral history project.

Textile Talks features weekly presentations and panel discussions from the International Quilt Museum, Quilt Alliance, Studio Art Quilt Associates, and Surface Design Association. The programs are held online at 2 p.m. Eastern (11 a.m. Pacific) each Wednesday.
